Sailing Lake Nahuel Huapi from Bariloche. Victoria Island, Arrayanes Forest, Paso Blest: each circuit shows a different face of Patagonia from the water.
Sailing Lake Nahuel Huapi: the lake that changes how you see Bariloche
Lake Nahuel Huapi covers over 550 square kilometers. It’s the largest lake in Argentine Andean Patagonia and from Bariloche’s shore it already looks impressive. But getting on a boat and heading out onto it is something else entirely.
The main circuits
Victoria Island and Arrayanes Forest: The most popular circuit. It takes you to an island covered in native forest with trails through lenga beeches and other Patagonian trees, then continues to the Arrayanes Forest in Villa La Angostura, unique in the world for its cinnamon-bark trees. Legend has it Disney was inspired by it when creating Bambi.
Paso Blest: A green mountain corridor that reaches the Chilean border and ends at a spectacular waterfall. Full-day excursion with a return crossing at sunset.
Practical information
Duration: Victoria Island and Arrayanes: approximately 8 hours (full day). Paso Blest: full day including a walk.
National park: Both Victoria Island and the Arrayanes Forest are inside Nahuel Huapi National Park. Park entry fee applies.
Season: Boat excursions run year-round, but frequency changes:
High season (Oct to Apr): Daily departures, more circuit options and schedules.
Low season (May to Sep): Less frequent departures, some circuits may not operate. Confirm before you arrive.
Other activities on the lake: In addition to boat excursions, Bariloche’s port offers kayaking, fly fishing, and sailing trips during summer.
Tip: Bring a layer even on sunny days. Wind on the lake can catch you off guard at any time of year.
